Pinhole Surgical Technique PST™
What is PST™?
The Pinhole Surgical Technique PST™ is a procedure in which Dr. Doan and Dr. Sinjab use specialized instruments to make a small hole in your gum and add collagen material which stabilizes the area of gum recession. This new and exciting method is simple, suture-free and minimally invasive.
What causes gum recession?
While gum recession is usually viewed as one of the symptoms of gum disease, it can also be related to overly aggressive tooth brushing, oral piercings, tooth grinding, and even anatomical factors like tooth position and gum thickness.
Why choose PST™?
Compared to gum grafting, the Pinhole Surgical Technique PST™ allows access through a tiny pinhole incision, making it a much less painful option. Gum recession was traditionally fixed by harvesting the patient’s own gum tissue from the roof of the mouth and then stitching it to the receeded area. Palatal tissue grafts (tissue taken from the roof of your mouth) may have a different esthetic appearance than normal gum tissue. Other methods, such as using donor tissues, may require intricate suturing, which increases surgical time and complications of losing a suture.
Benefits of PST™
- Less invasive
- Reduces the side effects of traditional gum surgeries
- Near-immediate cosmetic improvement
- Suture-free
- Accelerated recovery
- One visit can treat multiple areas of recession
